Woooow, being a teacher is HARD! My first three days have been so crazy! It was so great to meet the kiddos on Monday, there are so many of them, and their personalities are as different as leaves on a tree. (Those are all different, right??) They're all such cute kids though, and they're going to be very fun to have in class each day.
While the first few days have been exciting, they have also been super overwhelming. Between 3 hours of commute time each day and 10-12 hours at school everyday, I am slightly exhausted and crabby when I make it back to my temporary home every night. But- I am fortunate that I am able to take some work home with me at night, so I can sit here in my p-jays and drink a nice glass of wine while I'm working, which makes it a little bit less intense. As Matt would say, there's always a silver lining, and because I haven't had time to do much of anything but work, I haven't been eating much and am therefore beginning to lose my food baby again (yesss!!).
I made it all the way until Wednesday afternoon of the first week before I cried. I think I am finally starting to realize what a challenge it will be to reach some of these children, many of whom come from very un-structured backgrounds.
But, tomorrow is another day, and the sun will still shine, blah, blah, blah, so I am not worried about it. We have done some fun things so far this week, and I can now say that I am an expert at singing nursery rhymes. We got to paint a mural today, and everyone survived and no school uniforms were sacrificed, so I consider that a personal success. Otherwise I'm just looking forward to the weekend, and the coming weeks, when I am hoping to settle into a routine of some sort and things will slow down.
Cheers,
Miss M. :)
